Research area
My work sits at the interface between climate and energy science. Combining data analysis and quantitative modeling, I am interested in questions like:
- How do we decarbonize energy systems while simultaneously minimizing climate and weather related risks?
- Can we improve the representation of climate variability in power system optimization as well as in investment decisions?
- What is the relative importance of climate change and climate variability in energy system decarbonization?
I am a fellow at the interdisciplinary network of early-career researchers das junge ZiFcall_made, and a co-organizer of the Next Generation Challenges in Energy-Climate Modeling workshopscall_made.
I have a background in physics - with a focus on climate physics - and hold degrees from the Humboldt University Berlin, University of Potsdam and the University of Cologne. I began to analyze the impact of climate variability and climate change on renewable power generation in Europe during my PhD studies at the Research Center Jülich (2016-2019) and have continued to address related questions in the last years. In 2019, I won an ETH postdoctoral fellowship (2019-2021) to tackle multidecadal fluctuations in renewable energy potentials in the climate policy lab. After a year at the Climate Service Center in Hamburg, I returned to ETH in 2023 as part of the interdisciplinary SPEED2ZERO project, where I will address energy-sector climate risk further.
