Andreas Prein started as new professor at IAC

Andreas F. Prein has started on 1st September as a Full Professor of High-Resolution Weather and Climate Modeling at the Institute for Atmospheric and Climate Science (IAC) at D-USYS.

Andreas F. Prein earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Physics from Karl-Franzens-University in Graz, Austria, culminating in his PhD in Physics with magna cum laude honors in 2013. Andreas then pursued postdoctoral research at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado, USA, where he worked from 2014 to 2016 under NCAR’s prestigious Advanced Study Program. After his postdoctoral tenure, Andreas held various positions at NCAR, progressing to Project Scientist 3 from 2022 until 2024. During his time at NCAR, he also served as Deputy Director of the Capacity Center for Climate and Weather Extremes.

His work has been internationally recognized through numerous awards, including the Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher distinction and the NCAR & UCAR Outstanding Publication Award. He has contributed significantly to climate science through extensive publications and leadership in various climate research initiatives.

Andreas’ research explores the impacts of climate change on extreme weather events, focusing on mesoscale processes, the use of high-resolution models in climate research, and the interactions of earth system processes. across all scales of motion.

A very warm welcome to our new professor!
