Robb Jnglin Wills started as new professor at IAC

Robb Jnglin Wills has started on 1st April as Assistant Professor of Climate Dynamics at the Institute for Atmospheric and Climate Science (IAC) at D-USYS. In 2021, he received an SNSF Eccellenza Professorial Fellowship. His appointment will substantially broaden ETH Zurich’s expertise in the fields of atmospheric dynamics and climate modeling.

Robert Jnglin Wills (born in 1989) has a B.S. in Physics from the University of California Berkeley and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Engineering from the California Institute of Technology. He has been a Research Scientist at the University of Washington Seattle and an Affiliate Scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, USA, and has now been appointed as an Assistant Professor of Climate Dynamics in the Department of Environmental Systems Science.

Robert Jnglin Wills’ research focuses on processes in the atmosphere and ocean that influence climate variability and climate change. He uses a combination of climate modeling, physics-based theoretical understanding, and data science methods to study atmosphere-ocean interactions, decadal climate variability, and persistent atmospheric circulation anomalies that lead to extreme weather. He has won multiple awards for his significant contributions to this field, including the SNSF Eccellenza Professorial Fellowship. In his new post he will make use of the latest climate models and innovative data-driven methods to predict future changes in the global atmospheric and oceanic circulation, regional climate, and extreme weather events.
