How to Apply

We offer two Master programs!  

  • MSc in Atmospheric and Climate Science, hosted by the Department of Earth Sciences 
  • MSc in Environmental Science, with Major in Atmosphere and Climate, hosted by the Department of Environmental Systems Science

For the MSc in Atmospheric and Climate Science, candidates from any university including from ETH need to apply! The MSc in Environmental Science, Major Atmosphere and Climate is consecutive for the students with a BSc in Environmental Science at ETH (and some other Swiss BSc programs). All other candidates need to apply!

The Institute for Atmospheric and Climate Science contributes to two programs which are compared below. Both programs are very similar, the students attend the exact same courses and follow a very similar curriculum. The subtile differences are listed in the table below.

In principle any candidate with a BSc degree from a high-quality, internationally recognised university is eligible. Our MSc program requires a solid mathematical, physical, chemical background and basic knowledge of Environmental or Earth System Science. In both programs, particular emphasis is put on the requirements in Mathematics and Physics.

There are two application windows per year. Depending on whether you want to apply for a scholarship and need a visa you can choose one of the windows. Further information can be found on the Application Schedule page on the ETH main site.

All students from Swiss or foreign universities must apply online with the Admissions office. Please make sure to provide all the required documents. Make sure to carefully document the contacts of your BSc courses particularly in Math and Physics.

Yes, but only a very limited number. The scholarships are attractive but also competitive. Note that potential PhD positions are then fully funded. Find more information on the Scholarships page in the Student portal.
